In the Philippines by ~JKenzie:iconJKenzie:

It was a long time ago;
A past that I barely remember.
A moment in time
That I wish that I could repeat.

I was skinny,
And darker.
Had energy
That lasted almost forever.

My family - I’ll never forget them.
Their faces - Remain in my mind and heart.

It was a time of innocence,
Of laughter,
Of fun,
Of memories.

I don’t remember much else.
Just the smell,
After a rain,
During the monsoon season.

Just the taste
Of crackling skin,
Of a pig
Slaughtered for my birthday.

Only remembering
The moments
When I smiled,
When joy filled my entire being.

This was a different world.
Different from California,
Different from Canada,
Different from England.

A moment in my life
That shaped who I am today

A memory. Of a short period of time in my life. But one that forever changed me. Showed me the other side of my heritage. Exposed me of a different way of living. Made me more complete. (Unlike these fragmented sentences...)

A lovely piece..I particularly like the lines about smelling the rain and tasting that crackling skin of the pig. You made me the smell that rain too, and you made me really hungry for that pig :(

I wasn't interesting. And he was. Interesting and brilliant and mysterious and perfect and beautiful and possibly able to lift a full-sized van with one hand.

This poem is about my first time in the Philippines. I was there for a few months. Basically, I turned 6 while I was there.

I was not able to go back until I had already graduated from high school. So yeah, I remember my family too. And I hope that they will remember me.

Thanks for the fav. :D I really appreciate it.

I was born in Manila and I lived in The Philippines until I was 5, then moved to New York. I was 8 the last time I visited. Now I am somewhere in my teens.

I really missed it there, I miss virtually everything there, all the towns, all the people, and of course the food.

No problem! This deserved A fave. :)
